In June of 2003 I attended a tri-county (Lenoir, Green and Jones Co.) heritage & genealogy meeting in Kinston, NC and there I met Clarance Burkett, I cousin (new found). In conversation I found that his great grandmother and my great grandfather were sister and brother. He had traced his linage back to the Capt. Michael Koonce, a Captain in in the Jones Co. NC Militia. Clarance gave me his National Number (NSSAR). Later in the year 2003 I seen an announcement in the paper of the formation of a SAR Chapter right in Cleveland, TN where I lived. I followed up and became a Charter Member of the Col. Benjamin Cleveland Chapter, TN Society, Sons of the American Revolution.
